Level Design
It wasn't in my plans to work in level design for this project, however I saw a gap and I stepped up to fill it. About halfway into the project, I noticed that almost half of our main island map had not been touched.
So I started with this small section below, sculpting the terrain and adding houses in order to form the beginnings of pathways or "streets" that felt natural and lived in. And then I added the foliage to blend it all together.
Then, I started working around two main points of interest. The lighthouse and the circular building with the banners. Adding these landmarks allowed me to design intentional paths and different ways players could go about reaching them. I continued creating these paths using the unique shapes of the houses, the terrain, and the foliage.
Finally, I went through and really focused on the small details. I added lots of little decorations throughout to give the level a lived in feel. I painted some main streets in to define some paths and left others more ambiguous. Furthermore, I added billboards and rail grinds for players to find and interact with, and designed different paths players could take to get to and from the main delivery objective in the area.
